Well the first month is nearly over and it’s been a hectic start. We have planned an event and or promotion every Saturday in February, with lots more happening throughout the year. So why not join us on Saturday 6th February for the inaugural McKibble Park and All Things Scottish event. Saturday 13th is the inaugural Gosford City Growers Market. Saturday 20th is the Op Shop Tours, ending the month with the Chinese New Year celebrations. Coming up is the Street Art Festival and the Mosaic Wall Tile project. Progress report hits the streets

We’ve been out and about over the past two days handing out our Progress Report to members and potential members in the CBD. See it here.

We are building towards the AGM (at 6pm on 18th June at the Central Coast Leagues Club), when we’re aiming for a big turnout of members to elect the first Executive Committee of GBID.

Before that we will hold a Business Forum for member and potential members eligible to join us, where will go into detail about projects and activities for 2008/09, and seek input and any new ideas. That will also be at the Leagues Club at 6pm on 28th May (this month!) at 6pm. This Forum is not a public meeting – it’s only for members and people eligible to be members (commercial property owners and business operators in the Gosford CBD).

Gosford Council gives nod to GBID Business Plan

At its meeting on Tuesday night (6 May) Gosford City Council endorsed the GBID Business Plan for 2008/09 and gave formal approval for GBID to start operating.

We have moved on to developing projects to deal with the issues identified in the survey of priorities and to increasing our membership.

Gosford City Council resolutions on CBD revitalisation

At its regular meeting last night (Tuesday 22 April), Council resolved as follows:

Revitalisation of Gosford CBD

Council made a number of resolutions to support the revitalisation of Gosford CBD as outlined below:

A William Street Mall HUT adjoining Mortimer Lane to be offered to the Police converted to a Police Booth bannered and manned.

B Police be requested to publish response times and record offences on the internet monthly.

C Council Rangers to be engaged with Police and ACS to develop protocols, in a planned management response to issues of anti social behaviour and provide additional security presence.

D Return of bike patrols.

E Return of dog and handler.

F Review of proposed plans for stage 3 Kibble Park to promote a strong community spirit in Gosford.

G Council request an overall management review of the methadone distribution within the City and in association with the Council and the Gosford Chamber of Commerce.

H Council note the Chamber of Commerce’s support of Council inspection of disused shopfront retail premises.

I Council note the Chambers of Commerce support of Gosford City Council in resuming or demolishing at the owners expense (when Legislative amendments are complete) recalcitrant Owners neglect premises.

J Council request the Police to monitor the CCTV cameras recently installed.

K A letter be written to Member for Gosford, Marie Andrews MP, Minister for the Central Coast John Della Bosca, and the Minister for Police, David Campbell seeking their commitment to the implementation of the above resolution.

L A holistic and multi-pronged approach be developed to consider safety for the entire community and the BID Committee be requested to work with Council to introduce a ’100 days to a safer community program’ as implemented in Portsmouth, UK .

M Council implement the Youth Engagement Strategy program into the City Centre.

N Part of Councils consultation as required by the SCRAP committee involves the relevant Government departments when and where necessary.

Bollywood comes to Gosford?

We have heard a whisper that an Australian film maker who is doing a feature film for an Indian production company is considering doing some filming in Gosford.

Gosford Council briefs press on City Centre revitalisation

Gosford Council’s Mayor, Jim McFadyen, GM, Peter Wilson, Director City Centre Development, Colleen Worth-Jennings and Advisor Economic Development, John Tilston, made a series of presentations to the local media on Thursday to update progress the revitalisation project and the business plan being developed to drive the process.

Colleen introduced Bill Kerr and his team of professional consultants with particular expertise in putting together packages that are grounded in commercial reality and that are the catalyst for redevlopment.

Bill’s team has been engaged by Council is currently examining options, crunching numbers and identifying specific opptortunities, but there is a lot of detailed work, including talking with landowners, that needs to be done before the investment market can be approached.

John briefed the group on GBID, which will be an important player in the process.

This morning The Telegraph ran a story headlined “City-scape revamp”

Gosford Promotions Committee

There was a nice piece on page 4 of Friday’s edition of the Express Advocate under the headline “Bid to revitalise city centre”. The pic showed Mayor Jim McFadyen welcoming the first GBID member – our number 1 tickeholder, so to speak – Joan Grant of Central Coast Flowers.

We don’t like to quibble, but would like to make one correction. The article said the BID would replace the Gosford Promotions Committee. Actually the BID will replace Council’s CBD Working Committee. It will adopt the Promotions Committee. In fact, GBID will take on the Promtions Committee’s event calendar for 2008.
